VOLUNTEER
Alpine Challenge > Volunteer
Come and join the fun and support runners in this years 21st Anniversary of the iconic Falls Creek Alpine Challenge – we are looking for a range of volunteers, including sweeps and Aid Station / Checkpoint marshals in particular.
Our SingleTrack Running Wild events rely on awesome volunteers to help make the magic happen!
We have the following roles available over the weekend:
Course Marshals: We have a host of course marshal roles that need filling for the weekend ranging from 1 hour to 6 hours.
Bib collection and Gear Check: These roles also often transfer into finish line helpers
Finish line/Event village helpers: Hand out medals, cheer, assist in any way we need you!
Aid Stations: These are the super rewarding roles in which you can assist runners to survive the journey on course.
Sweepers: Be in the thick of the action. These roles aren’t for everyone and all sweeps will be vetted. Please only sign up if you are an experienced trail runner.
Volunteer Benefits:
1-3 hours: A Running Wild Crew shirt + $50 credit towards a future SingleTrack Events race.

If you want to see the big men and women fly on course – then this is the place to be – bring full weather kit for hot / cold / wet/ windy / snow ‘cos this place can throw it all at you in a day!

Looking for checkpoint on the wild side – then this is it!
Set out in the middle of nowhere on the Bogong High Plains – Pole 333 checkpoint is a major navigational locale and the opportunity to soak up the sun or huddle in your tent waiting for runners to pass though on the way to Mt Hotham or Falls Creek.
Here you get to see the runners in the 42/60/100/160km distances between 10:00am and midnight.
Access is via a 2WD drive from Falls Creek on a gravel road to Pretty Valley Pondage and a 6km walk into Pole 333 where you will be co-located with an ASAR team.
If you’re lucky all the gear will have been taken in the day before, if not then we provide a pack with a timing unit, stakes and tape to set up funnels for runners as well as some snacks for runners, and that’s in addition to your own gear.

Imagine being on deck at the Alpine Gateway (Mt Loch carpark) when the 100 miler runners come in, seeing the relief on their faces as you help them!
Armed with warm soup, noodles, coffee, tea – the look of thanks that words can’t express as they briefly relax in the warmth of this checkpoint.
Yes - it is a tough but rewarding gig and they will love you for it.
Located 2 hours drive (2WD sealed road) from Falls Creek on Mt Hotham this is an all night checkpoint running from 5PM – 4AM on Sunday, it’s warm with great views, toilets and showers and hot eater and it is shared with Alpine Search and Rescue, Emergency Management Services and runners support crews – so it can be pretty busy.
A great spot to make a meaningful contribution to support runners.
Best of all, once the last runner has passed through you can settle down for a couple of hours sleep before returning to Falls Creek.
Please note this has a 2 hour travel time from Falls Creek.

Located just over an hours drive from Falls Creek by 2WD the checkpoint is purpose built by the Singletrack Running Wild support crew to accommodate the runners in Tavare Park, adjacent to the Harrietville Hotel Motel.
Operating in two shifts you will support runners after the arduous descent of Bon Accord Spur – which runners have to navigate in the dark – so you will be a very welcome sight offering; tea / coffee/ soup / noodles and other refreshments before they step back out into the wilds .
Operating from 7PM Saturday until 10AM Sunday in two shifts with accommodation provided, it is a great way to support runners and welcome them along with their support crews.
