Razorback Run > Mandatory Gear & Qualification

MANDATORY GEAR

All Runners must bring their mandatory gear to the bib collection to have it checked.

The Razorback Run terrain, despite the beautiful landscapes, is legitimate wilderness. Therefore, you will be required to carry mandatory items and these will be defined as your minimum items.

SingleTrack Events will add to this any further items if the weather anticipated demands it so to manage most effectively your safety and that of our crew.

    • Minimum of 2l water

    • Compass (can be in your watch or smartphone)

    • Mobile phone (Telstra provides the best coverage) or PLB

    • Fully charged portable power bank

    • Torch and spare batteries

    • Whistle

    • Waterproof and windproof jacket with hood

    • Waterproof and windproof pants

    • Spare long sleeved thermal top and pants

    • Beanie or buff and warm gloves

    • Waterproof map of the area .

      • Recommended is Rooftop's Mt Feathertop-Hotham 1:30,000 and adjacent Bogong High Plains or Spatial Vision Bogong Alpine Area 1:50,000. You may download the maps on the website

    • Emergency space bag, note Emergency blanket not acceptable

    • Personal first aid requirements, bandaids, antiseptic, painkillers etc

    • Pressure Snake Bandage

    • Food—for the run and emergency food if lost

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

All Runners must meet the following qualification standards to ensure they are sufficiently prepared for the challenge ahead.

  • The 64 km Razorback Run should only be attempted by experienced trail runners with good navigation experience. As a minimum, runners attempting the 64km distance must have successfully completed at least one organised trail run over 40 km in the previous 12 months.

  • There are no minimum qualification standards for the other race distances.

Weather Conditions/Experience:

  • The run takes place in an exposed Alpine environment that can be subject to sudden and severe changes in weather.

  • Rain, fog, high winds, sleet and snow as well as hot sunny days can occur during March. Do not take this run lightly, runners have died in this region.

  • Hypothermia, dehydration and heat exhaustion are serious risks and all runners should be prepared for any weather conditions.
