Start to Telegraph Saddle (3.86k, 195m+)
From the start you run along Ring Road out of the Tidal River camping area. Please stick to the Right hand side of the road and be respectful of cars.
At 1.3k turn right onto Mt Oberon Carpark Road. Here the road starts a gradual climb to Telegraph Saddle. Please stick to the Right hand side and run on the curbside.
At the Saddle there will be cars in the carpark. The 100k and 27k runners will turn sharply Right onto the summit dirt road to Mt Oberon, and the 50k runners will continue straight over the Saddle and descend along Telegraph Track.
Telegraph Saddle to Mt Oberon Summit Return (6.74km, 355m+/-)
From the Saddle turn Right onto the dirt road climb to the summit. Follow the road and the many switchbacks until you reach the tower. Here it is about 400m to the summit. Continue onto the trail to the summit, it is narrow in places so please be patient for runners going both directions.
There will be a marshal at the very summit. Turn around there and return to the Saddle.
Telegraph Saddle to Telegraph Junction (6km, 51m+, 225m-)
Head down the Telegraph Track dirt road to the South of the Saddle and run the gradual descent. It does flatten out and has a few minor uphills before getting to the Aid Station.
Telegraph Junction to Waterloo Bay (4.7km, 121m+, 138m-)
From the Aid Station continue on the road South for only 100m before turning Left onto Waterloo Bay Walking Tk.
There are no turn offs along this beautiful trail and it will take you to Waterloo Bay Junction. There will be a course marshal here. 100k Runners will turn Left onto the trail heading North to complete the out and back to Sealers Cove. 50k runners will continue straight onto the beach and then turn Right to head South.
Waterloo Bay to Sealers Cove Return (29.2km, 1172m+/-)
Head North along the trail until you pop out onto the beach after only 250m. Here there may be a tidal water crossing across the creek to the trail.
Continue along the trail to Little Waterloo Bay Camp. Pass through the campsite accessing untreated water fountain or toilet if needed.
2.3km after the Little Waterloo Bay campsite you will hit the North Waterloo Bay beach. Make sure to run along the beach for only 200m or so before turning Left off the beach onto the trail.
7km after the Little Waterloo Bay campsite you will arrive at Refuge Cove Camp. Take a second to locate the toilet and the untreated water fountain which are to the Left of the camp.
Continue North along the trail, follow the headlands around to Sealers Cove Camp after another 6.6km. Here you will run through the camp with the toilet up on the Left as you descend, and the untreated water fountain down on the Right. Continue down to the sandy beach. Turn around and retrace your steps to Waterloo Bay.
Waterloo Bay to the Lighthouse (9.72km, 506m+, 419m-)
Head out to the beach from the trail, then turn Right and run south along the beach for 1km before turning Right off the beach and onto the Waterloo Bay South East Point Walking Track.
From here is a 400m climb over 2km followed by a long descent to the turn off to the Lighthouse.
Turn Left at the junction and run out to the Lighthouse. Along the way you will pass some incredible granite boulders before there is a steep concrete road climb before arriving at the historic Lighthouse.
Lighthouse to Roaring Meg Camp (5.36km, 312m+, 267m-)
Touch the Lighthouse and return to the junction and turn Left to run West towards Roaring Meg Camp.
This trail sidles along the cliff tops for 1.9km before popping out onto Telegraph Track. Turn Right and run along the dirt road for 600m before turning Left off the road and onto the single trail of Telegraph Walking Track.
This trail descends sharply and then climbs back up. After 1.5km you cross the wooden bridge and the Roaring Meg Creek. You still need to climb from here up the steps to get to the main camp. Turn Right at the top to head out to the road where the Aid Station is.
Roaring Meg Camp to South Point Return (6.2km, 280m+/-)
From the Aid Station head directly South back through the Camp and onto the South Point Path. Here you will complete an out and back to Australia’s mainland’s most Southern point. There are no turn offs other than some lookouts, so keep an eye out and continue to the South Point along the at times quite technical trail.
After 3.1k of mostly descending you will come to the Vic Parks sign that says South Point. Touch the sign and enjoy the view. Then turn around and head back the same route to Roaring Meg Camp Aid Station.
Roaring Meg Camp to Telegraph Junction (6km, 138m+, 256m-)
From the Aid Station on the road, circle back only 20m along the trail to turn Right and head West along the Telegraph Walking Track. This trail gradually climbs North over 2.5km before intersecting the Telegraph Track drivable road.
At the intersection, turn Left onto the dirt road and run down the nice descent to Halfway hut after 1.9km on the road. Here there is another chance for a toilet stop if needed. Or continue along the Telegraph Track for another 1.5km before arriving at the Telegraph Junction Aid Station again.
Telegraph Junction to Tidal River (11.25km, 223m+, 241m-)
From the Aid Station head West along Oberon Bay Walking Track. This is a sandy / gravel road that is 3.25km out to Oberon Bay.
On arriving at Oberon Bay there is a Toilet if you need it. Please don’t use the water in the tank as it is not safe to use.
Turn Right at the intersection before the beach and head out onto the beach via the trail. From here you will run a 1km beach section heading North along the Bay.
At the end of the beach you will see where Growler Creek meets Oberon Bay. This is a tidal crossing and at its peak tides can reach waist deep, so cross with care. At the other side turn slightly Right to find the trail where it leaves the sand.
Continue generally North along Oberon Bay Walking Track for 1.9km around the headland before hitting the sand at Little Oberon Bay. Run along the beach for a couple hundred metres and climb the stairs to join the trail again. Run around the next headland for another 2.5km of beautiful coastal trail.
When you arrive at the intersection at the edge of Tidal River beach, turn Left and head out onto the sand to run along the beach. Do not continue straight on the trail that takes you to Tidal River.
Run 1.4km or so along the beach before turning Right and taking the last main ramp off the beach. This will take you out into the Tidal River Campgrounds. Navigate Right onto Main Road and immediately Left on Ring Road. Follow this straight around to the Start / Finish line in the park with the memorial.
Tidal River to Mt Bishop Return (10.94km, 332m+/-)
Leave the Tidal River Aid Station by running East and continuing along Ring Road for approx 170m before turning Left and then Right through the carpark and then Left again out onto the Lou Errn Track. Complete this pleasant boardwalk loop until it brings you around to the footbridge that crosses Tidal River. Cross the River and Turn Right at the other side to head North East towards Mt Bishop.
From here is an out and back to the lookout at Mt Bishop summit. After 2.2km from Tidal River you will cross the main Wilsons Promontory Rd. Please watch for and give way to cars.
On the other side you will turn slightly Left to head through the Lilly Pilly carpark, past the toilets on your right. Leave the carpark onto the trail at the North end of the carpark climbing the Lilly Pilly Gully Track. Note, this is a change from previous year’s courses. You need to be heading up the climb out of the carpark. If you are running flat, you are going the wrong way.
After 1.4km or gradual climbing you come to the intersection to the summit. Turn sharply Left and head towards Mt Bishop. Continue along this gradual climb to the summit lookout after 1.9km from the last intersection. There is one prominent lookout before getting to the actual summit, so please check your maps to ensure you go all the way.
Once you see the view of Tidal River at the summit, turn around and retrace your steps all the way back to the Tidal River footbridge.
Cross the bridge and turn Right to head South West for 200m before turning Left onto Main Road. Follow this along as it merges straight with Ring Road and runs the final few metres before arriving at the finish line.
