KEY SAFETY INFORMATION

THIS IS REMOTE and LARGELY UNSUPPORTED RUN in the WILDERNESS.

What this means is that there are relatively long stretches between Aid Stations, minimal course markings, sparse and unreliable mobile phone coverage, no crew access and no drop bags.SAFETY TIP: You will need to carry with you pretty much everything you need for your day out on course. Mandatory gear means mandatory. No gear = no start.

SAFETY TIP: Visit the Races page on the website, familiarise yourself with the Course Notes and read the table which details expected arrival times for first runner, last runner, cut-offs, water, mobile coverage, food and toilets.

SPARSE MOBILE PHONE COVERAGE

There is approximately 60km of the 100km course and 30km of the 50km course where there is NO MOBILE PHONE COVERAGE.

The good news is that you will must have on your phone AVENZA Maps, which work regardless of mobile phone coverage, and you will be given a printed map with course notes at Bib Collection.

SAFETY TIP: If you are using the TELSTRA network and a modern smartphone you can utilise Satellite texting service. Visit the Telstra website here for instructions: https://www.telstra.com.au/coverage-networks/mobile-technology/satellite-to-mobile

SAFETY TIP: If you have a Garmin InReach, Personal Location Beacon or similar, please feel free to bring this along with you.

GENERAL STORE TEMPORARY CLOSURE

Unfortunately, the Tidal River General Store is temporarily closed due to a change in ownership. Not great timing, but we will have a local Rotary Club BBQ and one food truck available for Bacon & Eggs, Chips and Burgers.

SAFETY TIP: It’s recommended that you bring everything you need for your stay. If you do need any extra supplies, the nearest supermarket is in Yanakie, about a 30-minute drive away. The next nearest supermarkets are in Foster, Meeniyan & Leongatha.

WATER TREATMENT

Water on course at Wilsons Promontory is not guaranteed safe. This is why in the Mandatory Gear for the 100km race we have included Water Filtration / Purification.

SAFETY TIP: A good Water Filtration / Purification option is a screw on soft flask filter cap (such as HydraPak). Any method is accepted and not mandated by us. It is up to you, other options include purification tablets or SteriPEN.

NO CREW ON COURSE and NO DROP BAGS ON COURSE.

This isn’t because we are feeling mean, it’s because there is very limited vehicle access on course beyond the Aid Stations.
SAFETY TIP: You will need to carry with you pretty much everything you need.

BEWARE RIVER CROSSINGS

There’s two waist deep river crossings on the 100km course - near Waterloo Bay.

There’s one waist deep river crossing on the 27k, 50km and 100km courses at Oberon Bay. These are tidal river crossings and so they may be only ankle deep or they may be waist deep.

SAFETY TIP: Pack a spare plastic bag to put your pack, phone and other essentials into before you cross.

BEWARE OF SNAKES

Beware of snakes - especially where the track is overgrown. You are in a wilderness area and it can take time for help to come if it is required.
SAFETY TIP: Carry your pressure snake bandage in an easy to access place and know how to use it.
